Four men have been convicted of the sexual abuse of a teenage girl in Kirklees and Wakefield between 1994 and 2000, when the girl was aged between 13 and 20.

On 28 April 2026, Zahid Hussain (48) and Mohammed Chhibda (49) were found guilty of indecent assault offences committed against the girl between 1994 and 1999. Basharat Wali (46) had already pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault. All three men, from Dewsbury, will be sentenced on 4 June 2026.

Hussain was the first to sexually assault the girl, having first dragged her by her hair into a room during a party. The abuse continued for years after that, severely disrupting the remainder of her childhood and adolescence.

A fourth man, Jagtar Sahota (64) from Leeds, was sentenced on 29 April 2026 to 21 years for 23 offences, including 11 counts of rape, 11 counts of indecent assault, and one count of actual bodily harm.

Sahota, 20 years her senior, employed the girl at one of his takeaway businesses. He went on to isolate and sexually abuse her between 1997 and 2000 when she was between the ages of 16-20. The abuse took place in commercial and residential premises and in motor vehicles.

During Sahota’s trial, a statement was read in which the survivor described the lasting effects of the abuse. She said, “There are no words [for] what this man has done to me. He took something from me that I can never get back and it's not just what he did in his moments of abuse it's the lifetime of destruction that followed. The pain caused didn't end when he walked away. It lives with me every single day”.
