Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

For the communities around us

Putting people, purpose and responsibility at the heart of our work

At Switalskis, we don’t just work for clients, we work for communities, for fairness, and for a better future. Social impact has always been part of who we are and now. As we look to the future, we’re building even stronger foundations to become not just a successful law firm, but a force for good in society.

Part of our plan for growth

Our commitment to social and community impact is deeply connected to our long-term goals. Our strategy for sustainable growth is built around our four big goals:

  • To be a great place to work
  • To achieve sustainable profitability
  • To provide excellent service
  • And crucially, to make a positive impact on the world we live in

We know that long-term success doesn’t come from profit alone. It depends on acting responsibly towards our people, our communities and our planet. That’s why social impact is not a side project, but a core part of our business strategy.

Positive Impact on the World We Live In

Turning care into action

We’ve brought all our community activity together under one clear focus, from fundraising and volunteering to pro bono support and partnerships with purpose-led charities. Led by Director Kay Barnes, our dedicated CSR Committee was established in 2024 to coordinate this effort across the firm.

Our 2026 Charity of the Year

For 2026, Switalskis colleagues have chosen Alzheimer’s Research UK as our Charity of the Year.

One in two of us will be affected by Alzheimer's or dementia in our lives, either by developing it ourselves or becoming a carer for someone living with it. This is a cause that resonates with colleagues across the firm, some who have been affected personally and others because they regularly work with clients who are living with this disease.

About Alzheimer’s Research UK

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity dedicated to finding ways to treat, diagnose, prevent and ultimately cure dementia. Founded in 1992, it has funded hundreds of research projects and invested millions of pounds into pioneering research.

How we chose our Charity of the Year

When choosing our Charity of the Year, it was important to us that our colleagues felt a genuine connection to the cause they were supporting. We also wanted to ensure that the charity supported nationwide projects so that colleagues across the country could get involved with opportunities to take part in fundraising activities.

Our CSR committee collated a shortlist of charities that met the criteria and these were put to a firmwide vote.

Other charity support

Over the years, our teams have formed strong relationships with a number of local charities, including Yorkshire Cancer Research and PACES. We will continue to support these organisations on a team by team basis.

Our legal teams really immerse themselves in the communities they support, therefore grassroots engagement with charities and services is business-as-usual at Switalskis.

To achieve sustainable profitability

Caring for the environment through action, not just words

Sustainable growth isn’t just about revenue, it’s about reputation, resilience and doing business the right way. We know that clients, colleagues and communities expect more from firms today and we’re committed to leading by example.

Our sustainability efforts are led by our people, through projects that reflect our values and support local and national goals. From carbon reduction to biodiversity, we’re committed to playing our part in tackling the climate crisis.

A great place to work

Creating a culture of inclusion, support and purpose

We’re proud of our culture and we’re working every day to make it even better.

Led by Director Jennifer Heckingbottom, our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, also launched in 2024, is helping to drive this commitment forward. The committee leads work across five key areas:

  •  Gender equality
  • Disability and neurodiversity inclusion
  • LGBTQ+ inclusion
  • Race and ethnicity
  • Social mobility

Each of these focus areas has a dedicated colleague-led working group with defined goals aligned to our wider firm strategy. We celebrate key awareness days and events including Pride Month, World Mental Health Day, Black History Month, International Women’s Day and major religious and cultural events but more importantly, we take action year-round to build a more inclusive culture.

As a great place to work, we want to ensure our staff feel accepted, cared for and part of a workplace that values inclusion in action, not just words.

Excellent service

Helping clients – and communities – access justice

Our commitment to excellence goes beyond our fee-paying clients. We want to make legal knowledge and support more accessible to those who need it most.

That’s why we:

  • Provide pro bono legal support to individuals and causes aligned with our values
  • Offer community legal education and resources where appropriate
  • Support charities that help marginalised groups access support and justice

Through the same compassion, professionalism and drive we bring to our everyday client work, we’re helping ensure more people can find a way forward.
