Sussex Police launch appeal into alleged historical child abuse at adolescent units
By David Greenwood
Sussex police have launched an appeal for former residents and witnesses to come forward after they took statements from a number of former residents of adolescent units, Colwood and Larchwood in Haywards Heath.

Colwood and Larchwood were located on the same site as the current Princess Royal Hospital in the town. During the time of the abuse both units were run by organisations that pre-date the current NHS trust.
Sussex Police said its investigation centred on allegations made by former patients at the two NHS facilities during the 1970s,1980s and 1990s.
Allegations of mistreatment including physical or sexual assault and neglect have been made against former members of staff. Two former staff members have been questioned and several potential suspects have been identified. None of those identified are believed to be currently working in positions of trust.
David Greenwood of Switalskis is representing 9 former Colwood and Larchwood residents in a compensation case against the NHS trust responsible.
If you or someone you know were affected by this you are urged to contact the police by dialling 111 and ask for Sussex police Operation Cortina.
