Convicted Child Trafficker returned to the UK following arrest in Switzerland

A man convicted of child trafficking offences connected to the sexual exploitation of young girls in South Yorkshire has appeared before Sheffield Crown Court after being arrested in Switzerland.
Sharam Muhamadi, 21, was convicted in his absence in June 2026 after failing to attend part of his trial. He was later arrested in Switzerland and extradited back to the UK, where he has now been remanded in custody ahead of a further court hearing.
The offences
Muhamadi was found guilty of two counts of arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation. His conviction followed a trial at Sheffield Crown Court that examined the grooming, trafficking and sexual abuse of seven girls aged between 12 and 16.
The court heard that Muhamadi and co-defendant Bawan Harwe used social media platforms, including Snapchat, to contact young girls. Using false names, they offered money, e-cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and taxi journeys to persuade the girls to meet them.
Evidence presented during the trial showed that both men worked in convenience stores in Doncaster and lived together in a flat in Hexthorpe.
The girls were taken to addresses linked to the men in Doncaster. The court heard that six of the seven victims were given alcohol and drugs before being raped by Harwe.
Previous convictions
In June 2026, Harwe was sentenced to 29 years' imprisonment for offences connected to the grooming, trafficking and sexual abuse of the girls.
Following the trial, Alex Norris, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, described the men's offending as "nothing short of monstrous". He added: "Sex offenders will be denied refugee protections, and we will seek to deport them as soon as possible."
Muhamadi stopped attending the trial part-way through and was subsequently convicted in his absence. Following his arrest in Switzerland, he appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on 5 August and was remanded in custody until his next hearing on 3 September.
The case is due to return to Sheffield Crown Court later this year.
