By Caitlin Nunn
Sergeant Stephen Costello, 34, who is based in Leeds, has been charged with sexual assault of a female aged over 16 in Leeds. The offence is alleged to have been committed by Sergeant Costello in 2025 whilst he was off duty. Sergeant Costello has been suspended from duty and is scheduled to appear at Bradford Magistrates' Court on 4 August.
In a separate case, Police Constable Bobby Beattie, 27, who serves in Bradford South, has been charged with voyeurism and perverting the course of justice. He has also been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the proceedings.

Both officers are expected to appear at Bradford Magistrates' Court on 4 August.
Trust in public bodies, like the police, relies on allegations of misconduct being taken seriously and investigated fairly. For those affected, it is important that the impact of what has happened is recognised and lessons are learnt. Transparent investigations also play a key role in maintaining public confidence that those in positions of authority are held to the same standards as everyone else.
