Clare handles some of the most complex cases, acting for clients who have suffered serious injury and recovering substantial awards of compensation on their behalf.

Her expertise includes:

  • Birth injury claims, involving children who have cerebral palsy as a result of delays in delivery or inadequate neonatal care.
  • Extensive work with both adults and children who have suffered brain and spinal injury or avoidable amputations.
  • Successfully acting for the claimant in a number of complex cases including the reported case of Lee Large v Dr J H Waldron. In this case, the claimant suffered a severe brain injury as a consequence of a delay in diagnosing and treating meningitis. The claimant was awarded a significant sum in damages following a fully contested trial.

APPROACH

Clare has a reputation for diligence, empathy and results and offers clients not only legal expertise but a trusted partnership through some of the most challenging times in their lives.

EXPERIENCE

Clare has developed an interest in ophthalmology cases after appearing in an episode of the BBC series ‘Northern Justice’ with a client for whom she acted in a visual loss claim.

Clare secured a capitalised settlement worth over £24 million for a child who suffered four-limb dystonic as a result of negligent care during their birth.

After achieving a full admission of liability, Clare and her team worked tirelessly to quantify the claim and to prepare for trial, focusing on the claimant’s significant and long-term care and accommodation needs.

Just weeks before trial, a settlement was successfully reached following a round table meeting with the opponent. The terms of the agreed settlement included a £6.55 million lump sum plus stepped periodical payments to support the claimant throughout her life.

Clare commented: “While no settlement can undo the harm caused, this outcome will help the claimant access the care, support, and housing adaptations they need to live as fully and independently as possible”.
