Switalskis solicitor Sarah Myatt appears on ITV Granada News to discuss long-running case

Switalskis solicitor Sarah Myatt appeared on ITV Granada News on 16 April 2025, commenting on the case of Peter Sullivan, whose conviction is due to be reviewed by the Court of Appeal next month.

Mr Sullivan was convicted of the 1986 murder of Diane Sindall in Birkenhead and has been in custody for nearly 40 years. Throughout that time, he has consistently maintained his innocence.

ITV Granada’s report highlighted that new DNA evidence has been found on material related to the case. The DNA does not match Mr Sullivan and is not linked to anyone currently recorded on the national database. This new evidence has led to the case being brought back before the Court of Appeal.

Sarah Myatt, who has represented Mr Sullivan for almost two decades, explained that he remains hopeful as this new development may provide the breakthrough he has long awaited. She described the DNA evidence as potentially significant in the context of the original conviction.

Sarah also reflected on the personal impact that nearly four decades in high-security custody has had on Mr Sullivan. Should he be released, it is expected that the long-term effects of that time in prison will take some time to fully emerge.
