A £60,000 settlement secured for charity worker after life-changing injury

In December 2020, our client, a part-time charity shop worker in Birmingham, faced a life-altering accident that left her not only physically injured but emotionally drained. After finishing her shift one winter evening, her manager kindly offered her a lift home. As she made her way to the car park through a poorly lit alley, she stepped aside to avoid an oncoming vehicle and tripped over an unmarked stone doorstep. In that moment, her life took a drastic turn.

Rushed to the hospital, our client was diagnosed with a severe fracture in her right wrist. This injury would not only bring physical pain but also begin a long and complex recovery process. After months of treatment, she was still unable to return to work and struggled with persistent pain and limited mobility. It wasn’t just her wrist that was damaged—her sense of independence, confidence, and mental well-being were also deeply affected.

At Switalskis, we understood that her injury was more than just physical. It impacted every aspect of her life, from her ability to work to her emotional resilience. As her legal team, we were committed to supporting her through this difficult time and ensuring that her claim reflected the full scope of her suffering—physically, emotionally, and financially.

The road to justice was far from easy. The property owner initially denied responsibility, arguing that our client had no right to be in the car park. But we pushed forward, challenging the decision and securing an eventual settlement that truly reflected the life-changing impact of her injury. Through perseverance and dedicated advocacy, we were able to settle the case at £60,000, helping her not only with medical costs but also providing much-needed financial support as she adjusted to life after the accident.

This case was about more than just compensation—it was about helping our client to reshape her life. With the settlement, she will now be able to access further treatments and therapies, including the recommended (CBT) she needs to address the emotional trauma caused by the accident. More importantly, funds for further treatment will give her the opportunity to focus on rebuilding her life and hopefully resuming her previous part-time occupation.

At Switalskis, we pride ourselves on being more than just legal representatives. We are partners in the journey toward recovery, ensuring that those affected have the support they need to reclaim their lives after injury.

If you’ve been involved in an accident and believe a cyclist was at fault, you may be wondering whether you can claim compensation. A bike accident may result in more serious injuries to the cyclist than anyone else involved. Nevertheless, whether you were the driver of a car, a passenger or another person involved in the collision, you may be able to seek compensation if the accident was not your fault.
