On Tuesday 13 May 2025, three men convicted of child sexual offences in Keighley had their sentences increased by the Court of Appeal after they were found to be unduly lenient . All three had previously been convicted of serious sexual offences against a young girl in the late 1990s, when she was just 14 and 15 years old.

The Court’s decision to extend the sentences reflects the gravity of the abuse the young woman endured, and marks a significant step forward in her fight for justice.

The updated sentences are as follows:

  • Ibrar Hussain, 47, of Keighley: sentence increased from 6.5 years to 10 years (two counts of rape)
  • Imtiaz Ahmed, 61, of Keighley: sentence increased from 9 years to 11 years (rape)
  • Fayaz Ahmed, of Bingley: sentence increased from 7.5 years to 10 years (two counts of rape)

These convictions relate to offences committed in the Keighley area between 1996 and 1997 —yet justice has only now caught up with the perpetrators.

Amy Clowrey, Director and solicitor at Switalskis said:

“The original sentences handed down simply did not reflect the severity and lasting impact of the crimes they committed. We are pleased that the Court of Appeal has recognised this and increased their sentences.

“We have represented clients effected by these crimes, and are so immensely proud of the courage they have shown in speaking out. These increased sentences are a powerful reminder that justice is possible, even after many years, and we hope this brings her some measure of peace.”

These increased sentences come at a time when the wider issue of child sexual exploitation in Bradford and Keighley is once again under national scrutiny. Recently, our solicitor and Head of Child Abuse Compensation, David Greenwood , joined Keighley MP Robbie Moore in urging the Government to launch a full statutory inquiry into CSE across the Bradford District.

We know that speaking out can be incredibly difficult, but this outcome shows that when survivors do come forward, change is possible.
