Recent Arrests in Child Sex Abuse Case
By Sally Smith
Recent developments in West Yorkshire, Lancashire, Oldham and Greater Manchester have once again brought the issue of historical child sexual abuse to the forefront.

Sixteen individuals – fifteen men and one woman aged between 39 and 73 – have been arrested following a police investigation into offences that allegedly occurred in the Calderdale area between 2000 and 2004. The allegations relate to the abuse of two young girls and highlight the long-lasting impact such crimes have on victims and communities.
West Yorkshire Police conducted coordinated raids across Halifax, Dewsbury, Oldham, Manchester and Rossendale as part of this complex investigation. All suspects have been interviewed and either released under investigation or bailed pending further enquiries.
We welcome the clear message from Detective Chief Inspector Claire Smith, who reaffirmed that the police remain committed to investigating both current and non-recent offences. Survivors of abuse – no matter how long ago the incident took place – deserve to be heard, believed, and supported.
Detective Chief Inspector Smith commented: ““This investigation forms part of West Yorkshire Police’s commitment to the investigation of both current and non-recent sexual offences against children.”
