Action for Brain Injury Week 2020

This week is Action for Brain Injury Week 2020. This annual initiative is run by the brain injury charity Headway to raise awareness of the many ways that a brain injury can affect not only survivors, but also their family and friends.

This year’s campaign is focused on memory loss, which is one of the more severe effects of a brain injury. Even a partial loss of memory can have a profound effect on many areas of your life, including relationships, physical recovery and your ability to return to work.

The campaign uses the strapline: “Memory Loss: A campaign to remember” and includes a case study of a father Karl Hargreaves who survived a brain injury in 2015 following a road traffic collision. Karl experienced significant memory loss, including those of many of the key events in his life.

Recent research by Headway, of brain injury survivors found that:

  • 72% of brain injury survivors feel that the people in their life don’t understand their memory problems
  • 81% reported that their life would be improved if people had a better understanding of this complex condition

Headway works with brain injury survivors and their families to help improve their quality of life after brain injury. They have produced this short animation to help explain the effects of memory loss on everyday life .
