Legal Career Opportunities for postgraduate students

We have a number of Paralegal positions available for postgraduate students looking to start their legal careers.  Roles are available within our Family Law, Court of Protection (Health & Welfare) and Child Abuse Compensation departments based at our Wakefield, Leeds and Huddersfield offices.  All roles are full time.

These roles will provide valuable support and assistance to our Fee Earning staff, under direct supervision of the Director in charge of each department.

About the roles

Family Law Paralegal

Duties will include but not be limited to :

  • Reading and preparing documents
  • Attending upon clients in person and over the telephone with and without other Senior members of staff
  • Sitting behind Counsel at Court hearings
  • Telephone calls and arrangement of client visits
  • Assistance with LAA Funding applications and extensions
  • Assistance with private client invoicing and management of private client cost limitations

Candidates should be willing to travel when necessary as client or court meetings can be across the country. A “can do” attitude and willingness to help others out are essential requirements. Switalskis prides itself on a collaborative working environment and lack of egos.

A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel are essential as is attention to detail and being able to not only work as part of a larger team, but due to current circumstances remotely if necessary after full training. Candidates would be expected to do their own typing and may occasionally be asked to help others out with administrative tasks (including typing), though this role is primarily a legal role to support our solicitors and other fee earners.

Working knowledge of the Legal Services Portal, Bighand, and SOS Case Management would be highly beneficial.

Court of Protection (Health & Welfare) or Child Abuse Compensation Paralegal

Paralegal roles are available in both departments. Duties in either role will include but not be limited to :

  • Reading documents/medical records and providing synopsis/analysis
  • Visiting clients with other Senior members of staff and taking notes of meetings
  • Attending meetings with other professionals/experts and taking meeting notes
  • Sitting behind Counsel at Court hearings
  • Telephone calls and arrangement of client visits
  • Assistance with LAA Funding applications and extensions
