RMBC has announced a new five-year strategy to prevent child abuse, working alongside the police, the NHS and other agencies. However, we believe this approach falls short. From complaints we have received, we know that exploitation is still taking place in Rotherham. Survivors and their families deserve stronger action.

We urge RMBC to look at proven approaches such as the Bristol Safer Options model, discussed during the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA). This model identifies young people at risk of exploitation based on factors like postcode, school, age and background, and provides targeted education and intervention. It offers the kind of proactive safeguarding that is urgently needed in Rotherham.
