The Honourable Mr Justice Hayden will be a key speaker at Switalskis’ Eleventh Annual Review of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Mr Justice Hayden will be discussing the overlap between the provisions of the Mental Capacity Act and the Mental Health Act when dealing with medical treatment cases.
Mr Justice Hayden was called to the bar at Middle Temple in 1987. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2002. In 2013 he was appointed a Justice in the Family Division of the High Court of Justice and on 31 July 2018, was appointed the Vice President of the Court of Protection.
Mr Justice Hayden has been the presiding Judge in some high profile cases during the currency of his judicial career. Notably, the case of Alfie Evans and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. This case was widely reported on in the press and had extensive TV news coverage. He is often called upon to make best interest decisions on behalf of the most vulnerable members of society, both children and adults. These decisions are often of the most serious in nature impacting directly on that person’s fundamental human rights.
We are delighted to welcome Mr Justice Hayden to our conference.
