Spinal Injury Compensation SolicitorsHow do spinal injuries occur?

There are many ways that a spinal injuries can occur. If your injuries are a result of an accident or fall, it may be that a person or organisation were fully or partly responsible for your injuries. In this case, you may be able to claim compensation against them.

If on the other hand your spinal injury came about as a result of medical or hospital treatment, our Medical Negligence team can advise whether or not you can claim for compensation.

When can I make a compensation claim for spinal injuries?

In most cases, claims need to be made within three years from when you either suffered the injuries, or from when you first discovered them. In the case of spinal injuries, it is likely that you will be aware of your injuries immediately. If you are claiming on behalf of a child, you have three years from their 18th birthday to make a claim.

We strongly recommend that you get advice as early as possible and we can advise on the best time to start the claims process based on your circumstances.

How can legal advice help me?

Planning for life after a significant injury is extremely complex. The ways that the injury will affect you might include:

  • Loss of income if you are unable to work or have to change careers
  • Increased costs if you need specialist accommodation, vehicles or changes to your home
  • Rehabilitation, treatment and ongoing care may be required at different stages of your life
  • You are likely to experience significant psychological distress at your change of lifestyle

Each of these factors can influence the amount of compensation you can claim for. Whilst no amount of money can truly compensate for the distress, you may be entitled to claim for this and must fully ensure that all future costs and loss of income are accounted for when making your claim. As experienced specialists in claims for very serious injuries, we can help you assess and anticipate your future needs and plan accordingly before making a compensation claim.

How is legal advice funded?

There are various options of funding for claims. Many of our cases are funded using Conditional Fee Agreements, also called a ‘No Win No Fee’ medical negligence claim. Under this agreement, if you do not win your claim, you pay nothing. We can review and discuss the funding options available to you and help you decide on the best route to take.
