Last week, James Peter Gavin was charged with 14 historical child abuse offences which allegedly took place between 1970 and 1978. He will appear at Bury and Rochdale Magistrates Court on 9 February 2017 where he will then be transferred to the Crown Court. The charges relate to the most serious category of sexual offence. Mr Gavin was a social worker in the Rochdale area at the time and also volunteered in the Scouts.
Kieran Chatterton, Solicitor with Switalskis’ specialist Child Abuse Department said: “We are representing victims of James Gavin and they are bringing claims for compensation against the local authority, who employed Mr Gavin as a social worker. We fully support the police and crown prosecution service and our clients are cooperating with them”.
