Richard qualified as a solicitor in 2003 and joined Switalskis in 2014. It is not widely recognised that the process of buying a New Build property can be significantly different and requires a specialist approach. Richard created our New Build conveyancing proposition and built a a team that now includes seven full-time staff and is recommended by some the the UK’s largest builders of new homes.

Richard’s significant contribution to the growth of Switalskis was rewarded in 2019 when he was made a director of the business.

More about Richard

We asked Richard:

Q: What does your role involve?
A: Acting for the buyers of new homes from housebuilders whilst managing the firm’s New Build Conveyancing Department.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: Buying a house is one of the biggest things a person can do, and buying a brand new property is a unique process. Being able to help them to do that in a way which is straightforward and as stress-free as possible within tight timeframes is very challenging but highly rewarding.

Q: What can clients expect from you?
A: My clients can (and should always) expect:-

  • to be looked after by a genuine expert in the field
  • a first-rate personal legal service backed by advice which is both easy to understand and free from jargon

The positive feedback I have from my clients is that my approach does not conform to the image of the “old school” solicitor, which I take as a compliment. I am pro-active and understand that buying and selling of property often requires co-operation, not conflict, between the parties to get results.

Q: What did you want to do when you were at school?
A: Professional footballer for Leeds United, and famous rock star. It’s not too late, is it?

Q: Tell us about your proudest achievements.
A: I am incredibly proud of my academic achievements which taught me, if nothing else, the true value of dedication and hard work (Richard achieved a First Class degree studying Government with Law at Birmingham City University in 1998 and then went on to attain a Master of Laws (Distinction) at Leeds University in 2000.) In the working world, I am proud to have established a professional identity and reputation for myself in an overheated and very challenging marketplace.

Q: What are you interests outside of work?
A: Football. Football. Football. I am an avid Leeds United fan, a Level 1 FA Qualified Coach and (joint) manager of my son’s under 7s team.
