Emily Park works in the Court of Protection team, assisting vulnerable people who lack mental capacity to varying degrees. Emily frequently deals with applications brought pursuant to section 21A of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, representing people with dementia, learning difficulties, and those on the autistic spectrum or with an acquired brain injury. Emily works with her clients alongside their advocates, to meet their goals in relation to the person’s care or treatment.

Emily joined Switalskis in January 2015 as part of our Court of Protection team. She has worked on COP cases representing vulnerable adults with a range of difficulties including learning disabilities, mental health problems, dementia and autism. Emily works with family members as well as P. She also has experience with Inherent Jurisdiction with Director Michael Kennedy.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: Meeting with clients and helping them achieve their goals. I will always work hard for my clients and endeavour to get the best result for them.

Q: What do your clients like about you?
A: I think they find me friendly and approachable and I have an open manner which clients respond to.

Q: What aspect of this area of law do find most interesting?
A: That the Court of Protection and mental capacity law is constantly changing, shifting the landscape for individuals with mental health and capacity issues.

Q: What are your interests outside work?
A: I like to spend time with my family, and visiting local cultural sites like Salts Mill – David Hockney has always been a favourite artist of mine – or watching live music.
