The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has released its report following an unannounced 2-day inspection at the maternity units at Nottingham University Hospital (NUH) NHS Trust in April 2023. The recent report, released a week after the news that a criminal inquiry will be launched into the Trust, has rated the Trust as “requires improvement”.

The Trust has been under immense scrutiny after Donna Ockenden, Senior Midwife was appointed to review the maternity services across Queens Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital. The review is reported to be one of the largest in the UK with over 1700 families being invited to take part.

The CQC conclusion is a small step in the right direction but there is still a great deal more to be done. The Trust acknowledge that further improvements are vital but they are keen to keep making positive changes to improve their services. This gives some hope that further changes will be made. This will be further evidenced and supported by the Ockenden review and Police investigation.

At Switalskis, we continue to support the families we currently represent with claims against Nottingham University Hospitals NUH) NHS Trust. We hope responsibility and accountability will be taken by Trust officials and that changes will be made to ensure a safer environment for parents and their babies.
