Personal Injury at Switalskis encompasses specialist teams dealing with Clinical Negligence, Child Abuse, Therapy and Professional Abuse, Serious Injury and Brain Injury claims. Directors Janet Baker, Suzanne Munroe and Sarah Tipton Walker (Clinical Negligence) and Mark Hollinghurst (Serious Injury and Brain Injury), attended the awards with Amy Clowrey, and were elated to be announced as winners on the night.
Suzanne Munroe, Solicitor and Head of the Clinical Negligence Department, said: “What a wonderful start to Switalskis’ 25th anniversary year. As Head of Clinical Negligence, we are extremely proud to have received this recognition for our achievements on behalf of injured clients and their families. On behalf of the Directors, we are especially delighted to see the hard work of Switalskis “Rising Star” Amy Clowrey acknowledged at these awards. This really is all about the clients, who absolutely make our jobs worthwhile, and her client-focused approach is truly inspirational.”
Throughout 2017, Amy Clowrey has been supporting client Pamela Whitlam in a campaign to change the drink driving laws following the tragic death of her son, Harry, on private land. She is also Vice Chair of the Junior Lawyers Division, and is highly active in the legal community sitting on the Huddersfield and District Law Society Uganda Twinning Group committee and visiting Uganda to deliver training last year.
This fantastic result follows the teams’ recent success at the Personal Injury Awards 2017 where both the Clinical Negligence and Child Abuse Claims teams were recognised for their recent work, with Janet Baker winning Clinical Negligence Solicitor of the Year, as well as at the UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum Awards 2017 where Mark Hollinghurst was named Solicitor of the Year. This has been an incredible 12 months for the Personal Injury teams, as they have dealt with cases that have received national media coverage and supported clients in campaigns to bring about legal change.
In the past year, award-winning Clinical Negligence specialist Janet Baker and her team have achieved outstanding outcomes in two high-profile cases, one of which attracted the highest ever damages award in a clinical negligence claim. Janet Baker has also been supporting her clients Jack and Sarah Hawkins in their ongoing campaign to uncover the truth about the death of their baby daughter, Harriet, and to change the law to ensure that the same mistakes may be avoided in the future.
Switalskis’ multi-award-winning Child Abuse Compensation team specialise in representing people who have suffered child abuse and neglect, and have acted on behalf of victims in high-profile and group action claims. The work by Director David Greenwood and his team was integral to exposing the sexual exploitation of girls by gangs in Rotherham and the subsequent claims for damages. Their actions helped bring to light the failings by the local authority and police to protect the girls from exploitation.
