By Clare Gooch

It has been recently reported that Kettering General Hospital may be forced to close after reports of leaving children traumatised and sick through poor care.

Children’s services have said it has taken action to ensure people at Skylark Ward at Kettering General Hospital in Northamptonshire are safe.

It is reported that 13 parents of children who have died or were seriously ill have come forward with their concerns and this has subsequently prompted an in-depth investigation into the care that the ward provides. The claims include repeated failures to diagnose serious illness or discharging children when they require urgent care.

The ward came under fire after an inquest into the death of Jorgie Stanton Watts in 2019 highlighted five major failings that led to his death. The Trust said that it implemented a series of changes following the inquest, but it seems that these were not enough.

The Trust is at risk of losing its paediatric services and facing litigation in respect of the failings identified.

Several families have taken action against the Trust in the hope they will be compensated for the failings they have suffered.

We act for so many families who have suffered as a result of poor medical care. Children have died or been seriously injured parents have suffered trauma witnessing their children suffer.

We encourage anyone who has been affected by care received from Kettering General Hospital to make contact with us so that we can begin to support you too.
