Paediatric ENT surgeon may not have had the necessary experience to operate on children
Clinical negligence lawyers at Switalskis have learned of concerns raised in relation to the care provided to children and young people by Miss Aikaterini Dritsoula, Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon who was formerly employed at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
An internal investigation was launched into the care provided by Miss Dritsoula by Sheffield Children’s Hospital which led to an independent review being requested.
Switalskis Solicitors understand that a number of patients’ care were reviewed and a number of criticisms were made including that Miss Dritsoula may not have had the technical and surgical experience to carry out certain surgical procedures and that she has a history of taking on cases where she is ‘not capable of performing satisfactorily.’
Given the level of investigation undertaken by Sheffield Children’s Hospital, we are concerned that this was not an isolated incident and there may be several more children and young people who have received substandard care from Miss Dritsoula.
Hospitals are under a statutory duty to be open and honest with patients and their families when something has gone wrong or appears to have caused or could lead to significant harm in the future, called the Duty of Candour.
We are encouraging people and families to come forward if they are concerned about treatment they have received from Miss Dritsoula. Please call us on 0800 138 0458.
