The world portrayed by the new BBC drama The Split and the legal world of Wakefield, seem to those of us working in Wakefield a million miles apart. In many ways they are, but one of the city’s own daughters Annabel Scholey is playing one of the principal characters, Nina Defoe.

The series portrays a mother and her two daughters, family law solicitors to their affluent London clients.

In episode one, they allowed a wife to be humiliated by her husband, left confidential papers on view for another solicitor to read and allowed a son to be left alone in their offices whilst his parents used him as a bargaining tool in the next door room.

We may lack the glitz of the world portrayed by this primetime drama, but you can rest assured the down-to-earth approach taken by the solicitors in our family law department will make your experience far less dramatic.

Annabel Scholey describes her character as a “wild child”, whether Wakefield has one of those amongst its family solicitors, I will leave you to ponder!
