Jennifer Heckingbottom is an Associate Solicitor in our Child Care Law team. She is based at our Head Office in Wakefield.
Jennifer Heckingbottom specialises in Public Law children matters, providing advice and representation to the parents, other relatives and carers of children who are the subject of care proceedings.
Jennifer has a wealth of experience helping families in cases where social services are involved. In June 2015 Jennifer was accepted as a member of the Law Society Children Law panel, which means that her knowledge and skill in representing adults and children under the Children Act 1989 has been assessed to a high standard.
We asked Jennifer:
Q: What do you do in your role at Switalskis?
A: I am a Solicitor in the Child Care Law team, assisting families where children may be at risk of being taken into care.
Q: How long have you worked in your specialism?
A: I have worked in Family and Child Care law for over 5 years.I have worked in the legal profession for more than 10 years, joining Switalskis as a Paralegal in the Criminal Law department in September 2007 and qualifying as a Solicitor in early 2012.
Q: What do you love about your job?
Being able to help families that need support. I try to provide them with honest advice in a way that they don’t feel judged or ignored. I enjoy working with vulnerable young parents who may require extra support before and during any court proceedings. I also enjoy working within the specialist area of Adoption Law.
Q: What are your interests outside work?
A: Competing with my horse in cross country events. I also enjoy watching my eldest son play football in his Sunday League and entertaining with family and friends. I am involved in various after school clubs with my children as well as clubs with my horse, including my local Riding Association where we hold events to raise money for local charities.
