Sellers will no longer have to provide a Home Information Pack from 21st May 2010

The Government confirmed in a press release yesterday that the requirement for people selling their homes to commission a Home Information Pack (HIP) has been suspended.

From 21st May, estate agents and sellers will not be required to provide or hold copies of HIPs for residential property sales.

However, sellers will still be required to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), which rates the energy efficiency of a building from 'A' to 'G', with 'A' being the most energy efficient.

HIPs were introduced in 2007, and were a legal requirement for any residential property sale. They were criticised by some estate agents, conveyancers and sellers because of the costs they added to selling a home.
