Switalskis Head of Public Law, Erica Restall, spoke yesterday at the Public Law and Judicial Review North conference in Manchester. This annual event brings together best and brightest practitioners in the Public Law field, to share knowledge and practical experience. Erica, whose particular interest is in Asylum support cases, chaired a breakout session entitled "Asylum Support: A Survival Guide"
Erica shared her extensive experience of this challenging field, in which it is not always clear whether the Home Office or Local Authority has responsibility in relation to basic support and accommodation for asylum seekers and failed asylum seekers.
She guided conference attendees through the complexities of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002, using a range of case studies to illustrate the workings of the Act and the role of the UK Border Agency, offering hints and tips to those less familiar with asylum support claims.
Erica is one of only a small number of solicitors in the North dealing with complex public law asylum cases.
