Doug Feery and Lindsey Rhodes of Switalskis' Court of Protection team are to address the conference of mental health charity, Rethink's conference in September. Doug and Lindsey will address key issues in community care law that have been identified by carers, service users and the not-for-profit organisations that exist to support them.
Doug and Lindsey will guide delegates through the health and social care needs assessment process, explaining how it should be done, and how the assessment should link into the care plan for the service user.
They will also explain what action carers and service users can take if the procedures laid out for assessing needs or best interests aren't followed correctly by a local authority or health trust.
Both Doug Feery and Lindsey Rhodes have extensive experience in this area. Doug's particular specialism is in cases involving a human rights element and he regularly represents relatives and carers in Court of Protection cases involving vulnerable adults. Lindsey, who retrained as a solicitor in order to promote the rights of disabled people, has helped many clients to secure funding and care appropriate to their needs when Local Authorities and Health Trusts have failed to follow proper procedure. She also regularly receives instructions from the Official Solicitor to act on behalf of vulnerable adults in the Court of Protection.
More than 100 delegates are expected to attend the Rethink conference, which will take place in Blackpool on September 28th 2011.
