Leeds-based Criminal lawyer, Stephen Winehouse, has recently learned that he has been awarded Higher Rights of Audience for Criminal proceedings.
This means Stephen has proven to a panel of independent assessors that he has the necessary level of experience and degree of advocacy skills to be able to represent clients before Courts at all levels, without the need to instruct a Barrister.
An experienced practitioner, Stephen joined Switalskis in 2007 as Head of the Crime team at our Leeds office, having been a Partner in a Leeds firm for a number of years. Stephen has many years of experience in Criminal Law including high profile murders and drug importations.
He is also a member of the LSC Fraud Panel and has represented clients in fraud, money laundering and regulatory cases.
The firm is delighted that Stephen's experience and expertise has been recognised with the award of this qualification. Stephen becomes the seventh Higher Court Advocate working in the Switalskis Crime department across West Yorkshire. Overall, the firm now boasts a total of fourteen Solicitors holding Higher Rights of Audience for Civil and Criminal Courts.
Whilst they often work alongside experienced Barristers, the Higher Court Advocates within the Crime team at Switalskis actively use their Higher Rights, representing clients in Courts at all levels, from the Magistrates Court up to the Court of Appeal.
