Nine of our twelve mental health lawyers are members of the Law Society's Mental Health Review Tribunal accreditation scheme (sometimes called the Mental Health Review Tribunal Panel).
Solicitors and other legal professionals accredited under the scheme are able to advise and represent patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, at Mental Health Review Tribunals.
Only practitioners who meet the rigorous standards set out by the Law Society are allowed to join the scheme, which means that patients represented by Panel members have the reassurance of high quality representation.
The Mental Health Review Tribunal (MHRT) is part of the Tribunals Service. MHRTs are independent judicial bodies which are operated under the provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983. They review the cases of patients who are compulsorily detained under the Mental Health Act, and have the power to decide whether patients can be discharged.
