Family Mediation

How does mediation work?

Usually, our family mediator will invite you to an intial meeting to discuss how you think mediation can work for you. You can meet with your mediator at any of our offices in Wakefield, Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield and Dewsbury and you can attend with the other party or alone.

If you decide to attend alone, we would offer a separate appointment to the other party. After these intial meetings, if it is decided that mediation can work for you, and you each would like to work with our mediator to resolve your issues, a joint mediation session will be arranged. This will last 1-2 hours usually, though the length and number of sessions necessary to resolve an issue varies from case to case.

When an agreement has been reached, whether this is on all or just some of the matters under discussion, our mediator will compile a record of this for you, however this is not a legally binding agreement. If the agreement is relating to property or finance matters, your solicitor can draw up a formal legal agreement if you wish the arrangements to be legally binding.

If you would like to discuss whether your case is suitable for mediation, or would like to arrange an initial assessment appointment with one of our experienced mediators, contact our friendly and helpful staff on 01924 869940.

Our Mediation administration team is based in Dewsbury, but mediation sessions can be arranged at any of our offices.
