If you have not made a significant financial contribution to the household during your marriage, you may be anxious about your future financial arrangements following your divorce. Whilst there are likely to be significant changes to your financial arrangements, you are entitled to a proportion of the matrimonial property, and may even be able to make a claim for further financial support, for example child maintenance payments, or a proportion of your ex-spouse's pension.
We may be able to help you negotiate an agreement on financial matters with your ex-spouse in an amicable way; however, should it be necessary to ask the court for a financial order, the court is very likely to take into consideration your non-financial contribution to the welfare of your family, as well as your likely future income and financial responsibilities when it makes its decision regarding the division of your family finances.
