Child Care Law - Services for Children

Working in the best interests of children

Our specialists regularly represent children in cases under the Children Act 1989. The Act covers both public and private law proceedings. In all cases, whether public or private law, our primary objective is to further the best interests of the child, or children, involved.

Acting for Children in Public Law proceedings

Children who are the subject of care proceedings need specialist representation. We are highly experienced in representing children of all ages in cases of this nature, and are often called upon by Court-appointed guardians to represent the interests of children involved in care proceedings.

Our specialists are skilled in communicating effectively with children, and we work closely with Court-appointed Guardians, ensuring that proceedings are explained in an age-appropriate way to young clients.

We are also increasingly being instructed by young people in the care system who are looking for independent, straightforward advice.

Acting for Children in Private Law proceedings

We are often called upon to represent the interests of children who have been made a party to private law proceedings under rule 9.5 of the Family Proceedings Rules 1991.

We bring to bear our experience and the advantage of being in a firm with other publicly funded areas of work, notably asylum, when working in this field.
